Intel and Wind River Bring Medical Data Wirelessly to Android-Based TabletsGerald van Kampen, senior technical account manager at Wind River, presented a medical demo based on Android at the Embedded World Show in Nuremberg, Germany. The demonstration showcased a mobile health-care device for the home that wirelessly measures and transmits patient data. Built with Wind River Platform for Android, this type of connected medical device can reduce chronic disease costs, empower patients to better maintain their health, and enable physicians to remotely monitor patients. Clearly, there are concerns with exposing the human body to ionizing radiation, and due to the prevalence and popularity of these imaging techniques the FDA feels they are in a position to ensure proactive steps are taken to minimize exposure. They cite studies done in 2009 showing this total exposure to have nearly doubled in two decades in the U.S. population.
