Communications Research Centre
The Communications Research Centre Canada (CRC) is Canada's national centre of expertise in telecommunications, conducting research and development (R&D) in satellite communications, terrestrial wireless, broadcasting, broadband networks, and radio propagation. One of CRC's key activities is the development of Software Defined Radio (SDR) technologies based on the Software Communications Architecture (SCA), as specified by the US Department of Defence (DoD) Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS). CRC's deep expertise in software-based radio communication technologies has enabled it to participate and influence every release of the SCA specification since the SCA's early beginnings back in 1999. Through such participation, CRC has been able to introduce many of the essential features that are core to the SCA nowadays.
For almost a decade now, CRC has shown an outstanding commitment to the SCA Specification by providing robust and reliable implementations of the SCA Core framework. CRC's team was first to demonstrate a commercial SCA application, and to introduce an integrated development environment (IDE) for the SCA, to enhance, optimize and speed-up the SCA development process. CRC has also pioneered on introducing Rapid Application Development (RAD) onto the SCA world, by being the first to offer automatic code generation, real-time validation, and model re-factoring for the SCA.
With a history of achievements in the SCA field, CRC currently offers a new generation of small and fast Core Frameworks that are currently being deployed in the battlefield.
CRC's SCA offerings include products that integrate seamlessly with WindRiver's Operating System and their Eclipse-based Workbench development tools. CRC's Core Framework has been ported to execute under VxWorks 6.x, and CRC's SCA Architect modeling tool, being also Eclipse-based, makes it easier for developers that currently work with WindRiver's Workb
